Ceiling panels and barrier fencing at Rochester Station
Soffit Panels
An important element in the construction of Rochester’s new railway station is the pedestrian underpass, which links the historic town centre to the riverside.
Soffit panels for the ceilings were used both internally and externally to clad the concrete underpass and provide a decorative finish. The panels were made from Quattro-33, a cross-pressed grating with equal flat bars and a small 33x33mm aperture, which effectively screen the exposed services within the station complex.
In addition, Lang+Fulton supplied a barrier balustrade and security fencing at the station.
Parapet/Barrier Balustrade
The barrier balustrade acts as a parapet at the side of the platform, guarding a significant drop. It was made from Torino fence panels which were customised and engineered with a heavy, intermediate, horizontal framing bar to comply with Network Rail’s specified loading requirement.
The Torino fencing also met the architect’s brief for a barrier that provided through-visibility and offered an uninterrupted view of the town’s historic buildings.
Rochester and Strood MP, Kelly Tolhurst commented, “It’s great being able to stand on the platform and look at Rochester Castle and cathedral.”
Security Fencing
A Roma-4HS fence with special features to provide an extremely high level of perimeter security and excellent resistance to vandalism was installed between the station car park and railway embankment.
