Open mesh grating creates contemporary facade for Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop

The Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop is at the forefront of a productive and exciting Scottish visual arts industry; providing key elements of the visual arts infrastructure through a range of facilities and professional development opportunities.

Over 266m2 of framed panels of Terra-34, a grating which conforms to anti-climb guidelines, cover the south, east and west elevations. These were manufactured with a 40mm deep bearing bar for a greater visual definition, in sixteen different sizes up to 2.5m high and 1m wide and were fixed to the structural framework with custom welded plates.

Access through the structural opening in the east elevation was provided by a very large double gate which had to be of unusual size to allow for the removal of large sculptures and installations. An access gate measuring 4.6×5.3m (hxw) required six infill panels.
