Dakota Hotel in Glasgow
Dakota Hotels were conceived and developed with design as a founding element of the brand. The company’s latest venture is a new luxury sub-brand for city centre locations; Dakota Deluxe have opened in Glasgow and Leeds with plans for further expansion throughout the UK.
Dakota Glasgow is a remarkable conversion of a redundant office block which involved replacing the façade with dark grey brick, opaque ribbed glass, textured Corian, perforated steel awnings and polished granite window surrounds. The hotel is situated on Blythswood Hill, the old financial and commercial centre of the city, and is surrounded by many listed Georgian buildings. Planning conditions therefore stipulated that all roof-top service plant should be visually screened.
A 2-metre high roof-screen of Italia-80i panels was fitted retrospectively. During the design process important consideration was given to the support system, with the capabity of withstanding a significant wind loading but which would not impair the integrity of the existing waterproof membrane.
22 metres of panels were installed along 3-sides of the roof. The louvres were inverted to provide effective visual screening from street level. The support framework was ballasted along the entire length.
The panels were hot-dip galvanized and polyester powder coated RAL 9005 Black.
