Inclined Roof Screen at Great Portland Street
78/92 Great Portland Street consists of a group of mixed period buildings; numbers 78/82, built in the early 1900’s, are Grade II listed. The entire block is under redevelopment by Great Portland Estates to provide 23,000 sq ft of residential flats, 11,000 sq ft of retail units and 18,000 sq ft of offices at a cost of £19million.
A condition of planning in central London was the screening of roof-top plant and services. Lang+Fulton have installed 45.3 linear metres of louvred panels 1100mm high with 3 access doors, galvanized and ppc RAL7038. The panels were inverted to provide maximum visual screening from ground level and set at an 11 degree angle. The support system included L-box rear counter balance slotted steel channel frame, twin cross panel and ballast support sections, all weighted with 30kg/m of ballast.
