Kings Gate House London Borough of Westminster

Lynch Architects has recently completed adjacent office and residential buildings, The Zig Zag Building and Kings Gate House, as part of Land Securities’ ongoing redevelopment of London’s Victoria Street in the London Borough of Westminster. The award-winning project by Lynch Architects was built to incorporate restaurants, retail units and a new public realm.

New passageways have been created between the buildings to create an attractive environment for the shops, restaurants and bars which occupy the ground and mezzanine floors. The unusual care which was taken in the design of this urban landscape by Vogt and BDP is reflected in both the planting of acers, a tree chosen for its vibrant seasonal foliage, and the art works of Rut Blees-Luxemburg and Timorous Beasties, that are integral both to the architecture and to the quality of Victoria Street as a whole.

Lang+Fulton supplied 42m2 of open mesh grating panels for this scheme.  A pressure locked, heel-proof grating with a 44x11mm mesh was chosen as the most appropriate grating for a pedestrian area with a 50x2mm bearing bar to accommodate the span.
