Suffolk New College rooftop screen for HVAC and service plant made from open mesh grating

Suffolk New College: Micro-15 Rooftop Screening

Suffolk New College is a further education college located in the centre of Ipswich. The College prides itself on the exceptional facilities offered at its modern campus.

Lang+Fulton supplied panels of Micro-15 open mesh grating with a small 76x15mm aperture to screen the extensive amount of rooftop service plant.  The grating was installed over three different areas of the campus buildings.

The panels were made to a custom size of 1845x1000mm and were combined in series, to provide an overall height of 3 metres. They were attached to 50x30mm RHS posts fixed to the primary steelwork at 900mm centres on account of the high wind load.

100% visual screening was achieved with a combination of composite aluminium panels.

The contract comprised a total of 1200m² of grating in a hot-dip galvanized finish.

Lang+Fulton’s Technical Office worked closely with the architect in the early stages of the design to achieve the most practical and effective solution.
