The SSE Hydro, Glasgow

With a capacity of 12,000 seating and 13,000 standing, The SSE Hydro is the biggest performance arena ever designed by Foster + Partners. The £125m concert venue is part of a wave of post-industrial regeneration taking place along the once neglected Clyde waterfront in Glasgow.

The dramatic structure takes the form of a skewed dome, spanning 120 metres, with external walls clad in translucent air-filled ETFE cushions that can create a dazzling illuminated facade.

One of the main points of access to the venue is across an elevated walkway. Infill panels for the balustrade were supplied by Lang+Fulton, made from Micro-34 architectural grating; the galvanized finish and rectilinear appearance complimenting the surrounding buildings.

Continuity throughout the overall project was achieved by using a Roma-3 grating fence and entrance gates to secure the northern perimeter of the site.  In addition, a series of Roma-3 compounds were designed for the secure storage of deliveries for the Events Catering Department.
