Ventilation Screens by Lang+Fulton - Ikea Coventry
The architectural philosophy of Ikea reflects its Scandinavian origins and is expressed as ‘effective and honest use of materials combined with simple and careful detailing’. The new store at Coventry was built using environmentally sustainable building materials. As the first city centre store, it also provides contained parking for 800 cars.
The soffit panels for the staircases and elevated walkways were made from Stretto-22, customised to a bespoke 66x22mm aperture to provide an enhanced level of visual screening. Each panel was exactly contoured to match the demanding serpentine shape of the footbridge canopies.
For the Abbey Wood project, Lang+Fulton also supplied a Torino-11 screen to protect the overhead lines and a Torino-22 barrier fence to guard the edge of the station platform. In addition, a storage area beneath one of the stairs was secured with DeltaBox-70 louvred screening panels and an alternative access to the station was enclosed with a Stretto-11 anti-projectile screen.
