Boroughmuir High School: MUGA Edinburgh’s city centre
Boroughmuir High School is moving to a site in Edinburgh’s city centre. The new state of the art building will house up to 1,165 pupils with traditional classrooms offering access to break out areas and enhanced facilities for physical activity including a roof-top multi-use games area.
The roof-top games area, which is the first of its kind in Scotland, helps to make the most of the tight inner-city site. Lang+Fulton have supplied a MUGA fencing system for the 32×19 metre pitch using Palermo fence panels with a 43x44mm mesh for the lower sections and Verona panels with a 62x66mm mesh for the upper panels.
The 1.2 metre high Palermo panels with two access gates were installed on all four sides of the pitch with a 60x40mm handrail engineered to take a 1.5 kN/m barrier loading. The Verona panels were supplied with 150×100 RHS intermediate posts, spaced between the 200x200mm structural columns, and stacked to a total height of 6 metres. All the posts were bolted to the concrete floor through base plates.
Panels, handrails and intermediate posts were designed for safety and even-rebound and supplied in a hot-dip galvanized finish, polyester powder coated RAL7024.
